SECP verified FBR data of compliant companies

ISLAMABAD:  The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has responded to the Federal Board of Revenue’s query and apprised it about the companies that had satisfied its compliance requirements but had not filed tax returns with the FBR. The FBR wanted to confirm their filing status with the SECP for the year 2014. The FBR had shared a list of 9,721 companies with the SECP on January 5. Pakistan, Mexico initial treaty for avoidance of double taxation

Pakistan and Mexico have initialled a draft Convention for Avoidance of Double Taxation, says a press release issued on last Friday.The consensus was reached during the second round of negotiations which were held in the federal capital for five consecutive days. FBR officials arrest two from Gujranwala for Rs 29 million tax evasion

The Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation (I&I)-FBR arrested two persons for evasion of duty/taxes worth millions of rupees, says a press release issued here Friday. According to details, the Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation-Gujranwala on receipt of a tip-off regarding Sales Tax evasion of Rs. 29 million by M/s Gujrat Precasting Industries, carried out a raid on an unregistered entity, making taxable supplies without the payment of Sales and FED leviable thereon. Two persons identified as Marghoob Shakir Izhar and Muhammad Muzaffar Iqbal were arrested and the evaded amount recovered.

Pakistan, Venezuela agree to negotiate avoidance of double taxation treaty

Pakistan and Venezuela have agreed to hold negotiation on a treaty for avoidance of double taxation applicable to trade, commerce and services between the two states. The agreement was reached at a meeting between the FBR officials and the Ambassador of Venezuela to Iran, concurrently accredited to Pakistan, His Excellency Mr. David Valesquez Caraballo,who visited the Federal Board of Revenue (HQs), Islamabad with a two-member delegation here Monday. FBR, SECP to interface data for broadening tax base

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) have agreed to work closely to exchange data for broadening the tax base, says a press release issued Tuesday. The agreement to create an interface of data between the two organisations was achieved at a recent meeting attended by Member Inland Revenue Service (IRS) FBR, Mr. Khawar Khursheed Butt and SECP Chairman Muhammad Ali Ghulam Muhammad. The Federal Tax Ombudsman of Pakistan: Making a difference during 2010

In 2010, the Office of Federal Tax Ombudsman received 1446 individual complaints of which 955 (66%) pertained to income tax, 276 (19%) to sales tax, 205 (14%) to customs and 10 (less than 1%) complaints involved the Federal Excise Duty. Of these, 1261 (87%) complaints were decided by 31st December 2010. 83 % of decided complaints ended up in favour of the taxpayer.
