“The historic KPT building in Pakistan has been selected to provide a dramatic backdrop for an equally dramatic message: End Polio Now. Those three words, representing Rotary’s pledge to rid the world of this crippling childhood disease, will be projected onto iconic structures and locations during the week surrounding the anniversary celebrations,” Mr Aziz Memon observed.

“The invitations have been extended to our global partners besides the officials of the government health department. The Rotarians of District 3271 in Karachi are expected to turn in large number in the ceremony to be held at the parking lot of the KPT Building,” he added.

“After 25 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease, but a strong push is needed now to root it out once and for all. It is a window of opportunity of historic proportions,” Mr Aziz Memon reckoned.

“The contribution from Rotarians all over the world is expected to raise US$200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million will support immunization campaigns in developing countries where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families,” he said.

“As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk. The stakes are that high. Rotary continues striving to achieve a polio-free world,” Mr Aziz Memon concluded.
