jica JICA PRESENTS 2ND PROGRESSIVE REPORT ON KTIP STUDYExperts of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) presented 2nd progressive report of the study for Karachi Transport Improvement Project in the 3rd meeting of Technical Committee held in the Conference Room of Civic Center on Wednesday.

The meeting chaired by Project Director Karachi Mass Transit Cell Malik Zaheer-ul-Islam was attended by JICA experts, members of technical committee, Secretary Finance Department of Sindh Government, Secretary Environment & Alternative Energy Department of Sindh Government, representatives of PAF, Pakistan Navy, DHA, CAA, PQA, Transport Department, Traffic Police, Sindh Environment Protection Agency, Lyari, Bin Qasim, SITE, Gadap Town, NED University and NGOs.

The JICA team leader Minoru Shibuya gave a detailed briefing on the study of project. He said already 60 percent of the study work was completed and the Transport Master Plan 2030 will be completed by June this year. The completed master plan will also be presented to all stockholders so that their opinion could be considered while giving it a final shape.

Mr. Minoru Shibuya further informed that transport corridors for Karachi will be suggested in the second phase of the study and a feasibility report will be prepared which will be released by April 2012. These reports would provide great help in the implementation of transport projects from local and international investors.

The JICA team leader while citing various sectors of study also presented a detailed view of the socio economical conditions, transport policy, public transport network, land utilization and environment.

Director of Consultant Firm on this occasion said that a comprehensive survy of 40 thousand family units was conducted on the directive of JICA which covered 18 towns and 6 cantonment boards. So far survey of 27 thousand family units has been completed and the data collection was underway which would give considerable help in the planning of an improved transport system for the city.

He further said that information collection from stockholders for this study was continuing and people were also coordinated in different areas of city.

Director General KMTC Malik Zaheer-ul-Islam told the meeting they the steering committee was in contact with us since last eight months and 50 percent of work of Karachi Master Plan 2030 was completed.

He said that feasibility report from JICA will be considered while future planning of city.
