Pakistan: End election-related violence, prioritize human rights in election campaigning

The Pakistani authorities must investigate the wave of attacks and threats on political candidates and election workers, Amnesty International said in an open letter released before the country goes to the polls for general elections on 11 May. Fehmida Shah, Shafiq Shah join MQM

People’s Party’s Thatta chapter’s (Women Wing) president Ms Fehmida Shah, her husband and a former MPA Shafiq Ahmed Shah Bukhari, along with their colleagues, joined Muttahida Qaumi Movement here on Saturday.
They announced the decision of joining the MQM during their meeting with Muttahida’s Coordination Committee’s deputy conveners Dr Farooq Sattar, Ms Nasreen Jalil and other members at Azizabad’s Khursheed Begum Secretariat. Sindh Organising Committee’s In-charge and members, former member of Sindh Assembly Heer Ismail Soho and hundreds of PPP workers who joined MQM on the occasion were also present on the occasion.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Ms Fehmida Shah said that that people from all parts of the country had been joining MQM because of Mr Hussain’s political sagacity.

Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) President and former chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal on Tuesday made a formal announcement to take part in the elections to be held on May 11 this year. Police submits final charge-sheet Shahzeb murder case

The police submitted the final charge-sheet in the Shahzeb Khan’s murder case with the Anti-Terrorism Court-III on Tuesday. Judge Ghulam Mustafa Memon, however, directed the special public prosecutor to place the charge-sheet on the court’s record after its legal scrutiny. Shahrukh Jatoi, his friend Nawab Siraj Talpur, 22, Nawab Sajjad Talpur, 21, and their 23-year-old servant Ghulam Murtaza Lashari are facing charges of murdering 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan.
